INFORMATION LETTER Addison's disease or adrenal insufficiency group
Title of study: Are those with Addison's disease or adrenal insufficiency more susceptible to motion sickness?
My name is Abigail Lee I am a student at the University of Leicester in the UK, supervised by Qadeer Arshad I will be conducting this study as part of my master’s dissertation. I would very much like to invite you to take part in this study. Before you decide, it is important for you to understand why the research is being done and what it will involve. Please take as much time as you need to read the following information carefully. You can discuss it with others if you wish. Please feel free to contact me, if there is anything that is not clear, or if you would need more information on the study before deciding to participate.
The purpose of this study
The aim of this research is to investigate whether those with Addison's disease or adrenal insufficiency are more susceptible to motion sickness in comparison to the general population. By participating in the study by completing the questionnaire you will be contributing to the limited research in this area.
Why you have been chosen
Because you have Addison’s disease or adrenal insufficiency, and are 18 years or older.
Do you have to take part?
No. It is completely your decision whether to participate or not in this study. If you decide to participate in this research study, please read and then tick the informed consent box. You will be offered the chance to have a brief report of the findings, so that you can see how the data has been used.
What you have to do
A questionnaire that should not take any longer than 30 minutes. The Initial questions relate to yourself and health. Specific instructions are given before each part of the questionnaire and the rest of the questions will require you to simply tick which applies to you for example selecting on a scale from disagree strongly to agree strongly and not applicable to frequently. You can choose to leave certain questions blank if you so wish, and questionnaires that contain partial, incomplete or unfinished responses will not be visible to the researchers, thus any data previously submitted will not be used in the study and will be classed as withdrawal before submission. If you decide to submit you are consenting to your answers being used in the study. A debrief page will be displayed on completion of the questionnaire with provides further support services and information.
Will your taking part in this study be kept confidential?
Yes. All of the information collected during this research study will be kept strictly confidential. On completion of the questionnaire you will receive a receipt containing a unique receipt number and a submission date and time. The unique receipt number matches the response ID allocated to your responses so your name or other identifiable information will not be asked, all collected data will be securely stored.
What will happen to the results of the study?
The information collected will be analysed, written up and included in my research dissertation. Potential dissemination to be included only if the supervisor has evidence why this study is likely to be published.
